Experience:
Ingrid Hobbs concentrates on insurance matters. Her extensive experience includes policy coverage disputes, especially those involving product liability insurance, professional indemnity, political risk insurance, and directors and officers liability coverage.
Ingrid has experience in advising insurers on complex policy issues regarding the validity and application of insurance contracts. She is regularly instructed to investigate issues of non-disclosure, breach of warranty and misrepresentation.
She advises insurers in relation to Products Liability, Product Recall and Guarantee policies. She recently successfully defended a manufacturer of breast implants in a trial involving important issues under the Consumer Protection Act and related European Directives, and she was involved in a reinsurance case relating to Product Liability in the steel industry involving South African, UK and Australian jurisdictions. In addition, she has advised in relation to Product Liability claims involving allegedly defective tyres and advises on product recall investigations and guarantee claims.
Ingrid has advised insurers in relation to a claim concerning design errors in a roller coaster, and she has considerable experience with accountants' and surveyors' negligence claims. In addition, she has experience in advising in relation to expropriation and non-honouring of obligation claims in the context of political risk policies taken out to support project financings.
Ingrid has also developed a focus on advising in relation to claims made under Directors' and Officers' Liability Insurance policies and is currently advising on a high value and multi-party claim in this area.She has considerable experience of multi-jurisdictional claims and acts regularly for insurers and insureds on breach of trust matters. She has also been involved in trust-related disputes in the Bahamas, Jersey and Guernsey.
Ingrid has been identified in the field of Product Liability as "exceptionally good," being part of an "extremely professional" team of "incredibly approachable people" and boasts a "reservoir of good specialist knowledge" (Legal 500). That publication also recognised her as being among the "well respected" partners in the field of professional indemnity. Ingrid joined mayer Brown in 1997 and became a partner in 2002.
Notable Engagements:
Represented the Federation International de L'Automobile (FIA) (on insurers' instruction) in proceedings concerning allegations of negligence in track safety/inspection. (Wattleworth v Goodwood Road Racing Company Ltd; RACMSA and Federation International de L'Automobile (FIA) [2004] EWHC 140; [2004] PIQR p25).
Advised insurers in relation to policy matters, in particular a coverage dispute concerning allegedly defective paint on a multi-million pound development project.
Advised insurers of large management consultancy in a claim relating to a software package, an issue involving transatlantic jurisdictional issues and complex contractual matters.
As part of a Chubb secondment, advised on Directors' and Officers' Liability policy application, as well as Professional Indemnity and Financial Institutions claims.
